Unable to save the path in the AccountPath.txt file in the installation folder

The student’s machine must have the permission to read from and write into the folder that contains the student records (usually located on the teacher’s computer).

  1. Using the teacher’s Mac, select the master folder on the teacher’s computer that contains the “Accounts” and “Progress” folders that you created for storing the students’ records.
  2. Press “Command + I” or select “Get Info” from the File menu.
  3. In the “Ownership & Permissions” section at the bottom of the window open the “Details” and set permissions so that the “Group” and “Others” can “Read & Write” to this folder. Click the checkbox (10.5) or press the button (10.4 and earlier) to make sure that changes “Apply to Enclosed Items.”

Director Script Error when setting account path on student’s machine.

The hard drive on the teacher’s machine should have a unique name. Simply rename the hard drive on the instructor’s computer to something other than “Macintosh HD.” To rename your hard drive...

  1. Select the drive and press “Command I” or choose “Get Info” from the File menu.
  2. Type a new name into the field labels “Name & Extension.”
  3. Close the “Get Info” window.

By renaming the hard drive on the teacher’s machine, you avoid a conflict that happens when the our software tries to find the Account path on the local drive with the same name.

Director Script Error when selecting the student (teacher or student edition).

Most likely you’re not seeing an error from clicking on a student name but actually from clicking on the blank area above the student’s name. The message will ask you if you want to continue. Simply click “Yes.” Next, click on an actual student name instead of the blank area. It’s a quirky bug that generates the blank name area, but it won’t affect your ability to use the software. You can safely ignore the warning.

The user setup and tests work the first time, but
after logging out and logging back in the progress files are not updating.

This can happen if the application is launched before the network connection is made. You can verify that this is the problem if the list of students does not appear when the application is launched. To fix the problem, launch the student’s application and press the “Control” key before it finishes launching (p.5 of the manual). This will force the application to reset the account path and ask you to locate the account path folder again.

It is important that network connections are made before launching the applications. We suggest the following to make this easier...

  1. Make sure the teacher’s machine is on and the external hard drive is mounted before turning on the student macs.
  2. Make sure the student machines are logged in before they arrive in the room. To guarantee this, make the connection happen automatically on start-up. To set things up so the student’s Mac will automatically connect to the desired volume on startup, first make the connection, then open System Preferences, view the Accounts control panel, select the “Login Items” tab, and drag the new volume from your desktop sidebar into the “Login Items” window. Check the box on the left to activate the automatic connection.
